Love science and baking? This is the workshop for you.

Learn a recipe and throw it out the window :) Join Janani from SampoornaAhara and Mrinal from Seeds 2 Saplings for this 2 day workshop!

Sourdough is a slow fermentation of dough using a starter culture of wild yeasts and bacteria. The diverse mixture of bacteria and yeasts in the strater culture gives the bread its unique flavor, texture and aroma. Humans have relied on sourdough starter microbial communities to make leavened bread for thousands of years, yet we are only beginning to understand the science of it.

In this workshop, let’s don our lab coats and chef hats to explore the science of this extraordinary traditional recipe by experimenting with different flours, environment pH and more. We will also take a peek at our little microbial friends through a microscope.

Click Buy Now to Register (we will contact you after checkout for further details), or scroll down for details.

Imagine doing these experiments with the smell of freshly baked bread wafting through the air as you prepare to surprise your friends and family with a beautiful, slow-baked, artisanal loaf of sourdough bread. Oven baked to perfection, the warm delicious loaves of rosemary and garlic bread or even a decadent sweet cinnamon raisin treat can be your go-to every time you feel like it. What’s more? We teach you how to make all this without having to use a single drop of oil or dairy, using only the goodness of whole grains, nuts, herbs and spices.

If you are anything like us though, the moment you read a recipe, your brain says… but what would happen if… And a whole world of exciting experiments happens!

This workshop will enable you to bake your own sourdough bread from scratch with experiments to understand the science of this historical food delicacy.

Topics covered:

  1. 4 types of whole grain sourdough bread - a simple loaf, olive and rosemary loaf, garlic bread and cinnamon rolls.
  2. How to start a wholegrain sourdough starter
  3. How to keep a starter running, troubleshooting problems
  4. How to rise, proof, shape and bake a loaf of 100% whole wheat sourdough bread
  5. Adding flavours and shape to your sourdough bread
  6. Explore the science of baking
  7. Baking Math (how do you calculate and adjust recipes)
  8. Exciting experiments with sourdough
  9. How to store your sourdough

Being a health coach promoting a whole plant-based diet, I get asked this question often, "Where can we get nutritionally balanced, clean yet tasty food outside? Being unable to cook at home, due to lack of time or expertise, is there a place where we can get it ready-made?" And our prayers have been answered by SampoornaAhara.com.
